Having left the beautiful beaches of southwest Florida, it was now time to head towards New Orleans and my Father's Day Weekend with my three children, Emily, Eliza and Luke and their spouses and significant others. What a fun time that will be. But these two days were spent mostly driving. Of course, at this point in my life I can pretty much have fun in a phone booth so it was still filled with some adventures and oddities. The armpit of Florida is truly still a pristine wilderness and driving by the Hommosasso Wildlife Park I pulled in to check it out and get a lay of the land. Though state run, this was pretty much a zoo, but the park ranger directed me to another road and trail that took right down to the gulf. What a beautiful diversion this was for my day and allowed me to get a good hike in despite the almost 100 degree temperatures (my car thermometer topped out at 103 today).
Today my final destination was Panama City Beach, a place that I had heard people rave about. Well, to me, the beach is beautiful but the whole area around it is rather ticky-tacky with booze bars, mopeds, amusement rides and condom stores lining the street on one side and massive sun and beach blocking hotels on the other. I was underwhelmed to say the least. I did however see a beautiful sunset.

My son-in-law Matt Huntley asked me to stop in the Publix store in Sarasota to check out the new line of soups that his and his family's company has on the market. The company is the N.K Hurst Company and they are one of the largest bean packagers in the country. You may have heard of their HamNBeens Soup. Well, here is the line of easily made soups that Matt designed and introduced.
I know this isn't soup weather, but keep these in mind when the weather turns cold.
Leaving the hotel now heading to New Orleans......Woo hoo!!
