An adventure.....always an adventure.
A couple of days ago I UPS'd home two suitcases of surplus clothing and a shoe duffle in an effort to make some more room in my jeep and simplify my trip. But of course that means that I would find myself doing laundry at some point. Having some time this morning before my children show up, I inquired with the concierge at the La Pavillon Hotel where we are staying where the best local laundromat was. He looked at me like he had eaten a lemon and proceeded to mumble something about the hotel having a laundry service. But that wouldn't be any fun. A bellman overheard the conversation and interceded and directed me down to the far end of Bourbon Street (always Bourbon Street) and I hopped in the car with my laundry and took the drive down Bourbon which by the way, looks completely different at 9:00am.... surprisingly very very clean. I arrived at "Suds dem Duds" and parked the car across the street right in front. Perfect. How could this be any easier. But upon getting to the door, a sign greeted me that said "The city of New Orleans has shut the water off from 8:00 to Noon". Drat! I turned to walk away when the door opened and a warm smile greeted me. It was Wilbert, the owner of Suds dem Duds. He and his wife had gone into business for themselves and purchased the business last December.
Well,Wilbert went and checked the water and it seemed to be on so I loaded up two washers and put in the change to get them started and just as they start to run two guys from the Water Department show up across the corner with a large crank. "Uh oh" said Wilbert. "This don't look good". Wilbert headed out the door and proceeded to walk across to talk with them. After a quick conversation, his big smile and thumbs up told me that they were actually done and turning the water on so I proceeded back inside to make sure everything was in order.
At one point a quick look out the window startled me as I saw a city tow truck right beside my parked jeep. I quickly walked out the door and up to the window of the truck where the woman driving the tow truck rolled down her window. "Are you going to tow me?" I inquired. "No, she replied......he is" and she pointed to another tow truck backing up to "assume the position". With my arms waving and apologies all around I quickly hopped in the jeep and beat it out of there. I hope when I go out now it is still where I left it :)
Leaving here I am taking my car to a local Jeep dealer for an oil change and safety inspection. Seems the hotel where I am staying charges $35.00 a nite plus tax to park your car. So......I am gonna leave it at the Jeep dealer for a few days and take advantage of their $29.95 oil change :))
The kids have all indicated that their planes are on time or that they are in route. Looking forward to a lively weekend.
