DAY 16 to19: New Orleans Food

I was doing so good. I really really was. With my pre-trip goal having been to lose 15 pounds, half way through the month I was down 7 pounds.  Being active....Eating right....Not eating a lot. Man, I was feeling good. And then...And then...I got to New Orleans. To not go to New Orleans and eat is like going to the ocean and not going on the beach. It is le reason d'etre. The reason to be. And eat we did. Rather than try to include the food portion in and amongst my New Orleans days I thought it better just to lay out one blog on food. So here goes.  If you find yourself getting hungry while reading this one, go ahead. Call the pizza delivery place. Raid the refrigerator. Finish off those left overs. You only live once....Go for it. We did.

In no particular order............

Char-grilled oysters from the Acme Oyster House. To die for. Oysters lathered in spices and butter and grilled. We stopped here twice. Would have stopped more but the line was too long to get in. People will wait an hour to get into this place

Eliza's double pork chop and my Grilled Swordfish and Mussels with crab etouffe and basil at Emeril's. An absolutely delicious meal and probably our best meal there. Coupled with some Spanish Red wine and a nice New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, this meal rocked.

It wouldn't be New Orleans without a stop at Cafe du Monde for their world famous Beignets and Cafe au Lait. This is the way to start your day. These deep friend rolls are smothered in powdered sugar. Boy are they good.

An afternoon stop at a restaurant called "Luke" found us in the midst of a happy hour with shrimp and oysters on the half shell.

And the hotel that we stayed at....Le Pavillon....every nite at 10:00pm had Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches and Hot Chocolate.  They even offered a PB&J drawn bath...but even we thought that just a bit excessive.

Walking through the French Market found us sampling Boudin and Crawfish Rolls along with Brie Pancakes.

And of course it wouldn't be a trip with your kids if you didn't have a pizza....even if it was at 2:30 in the morning........

Dinner at Cochon...which means "The Pig". I can only hope that the owner didn't name the restaurant after his wife. Delicious sausages and boudin and ham hocks and such. And this barely scratches the surface.
There was breakfast at my favorite place Fleur-de-lis along with breakfast at "Mother's". An ice cream cone at Coldstone and appetizers at Jackson Brewery. And of course, what would a visit to New Orleans be without a visit to Pat O'Briens for a Hurricane.

And all of this was washed down with...................................

So I departed New Orleans having given back the seven pounds that I had lost.....but boy did we have fun. There are just too too many good places to eat in New Orleans.
